Just 5 days to go: the world's best step up to do battle in Viana Do Castelo

The countdown clock is on as the world's best SUP athletes descend upon the beautiful city of Viana do Castelo in Portugal, the current European Capital of Sport, for stop #2 of the 2023 APP World Tour.
The Viana SUP Open - held at Praia Fluvial do Barracão dos Touros - will feature World Tour Competition across both Sprint and Distance, coupled with Open and Youth formats, introductory clinics, on-water sessions for all and fun for all the family.
Friday 14th will be an opening day for athlete warm ups, meet and greets, registration and on-the-water sessions in conjunction with the Viana do Castelo chapter of APPACDM and their 'Sports for All' initiative, with a formal Opening event to take place from 6pm.
Saturday 15th will feature fast paced sprints, with a 250m course and the APP's trademark M course that will deliver a dramatic spectacle for on site and live broadcast audiences. The day will begin with Open and Youth competition, as well as entry level participation opportunities with Surf Clube de Viana, while the afternoon will see the Pro Elimination take center stage from 2pm.
The evening event will feature movie screenings and a DJ at the unique waterfront setting for people to relax and unwind after a full day of action.
Sunday 16th will be the Distance day, with 3km and 6km courses through the beautiful waterway that lines the City of Viana do Castelo in the morning for Open and Youth Competitors. This will be followed by the World Class downwind race starting in the neighboring beach town of Afife, following the coast south and finishing back in the heart of Viana do Castelo.
The day will then wrap with the APP's Paddle for the Oceans initiative, with all participants paddling out in support of ocean preservation and protection.

The World Tour Sprint Racing elimination will be broadcast live from 2pm on Saturday 15th July and the distance race live from 2pm on Sunday 16th July at www.appworldtour.com and across Youtube and facebook channels @appworldtour
